Screened Movies (10/25/15-10/31/15)

Hello MFR Fans!

Just screened (theatrically) the following flix:

STEVE JOBS (2.5/5-stars): An elegant but disappointing take on Walter Isaacson’s terrific Steve Jobs biography.  Pedigreed with Oscar®-winning talent behind the camera (director Danny Boyle and scribe Aaron Sorkin), the production is a competent but (ultimately) niche product.  Lead Michael Fassbender looks nothing like the late Steve Jobs (unlike Ashton Kutcher’s strong resemblance in 2013’s Jobs)–and thus kept me out of the movie altogether.

THE LAST WITCH HUNTER (3/5-stars): A diverting but forgetful horror-fantasy featuring solid production values (including handsome cinematography), a game Vin Diesel and not much else.  At least the always-lovable Michael Caine shows up for an extended cameo (and paycheck).

SCOUTS GUIDE TO THE ZOMBIE APOCALYPSE (4/5-stars): Zombies are all the rage in media. Luckily, a flick like this comes along and makes it all worthwhile!  Standard sub-genre set-up is elevated by naturalistic performances by the charming young cast while production values are solid across the board.  The movie was damned funny too!

Feel free to e-mail me (info@moonstarfilmreviews.com) if you’d like a quick opinion on any given movie before I publish my review!
